Edit Or Bootleg

Jury is out on the Editors' new album - I saw an interview with them on the MTV where they said they wanted to try something a little different from the first album, but to my mind they have only managed to bland themselves out a little. Still - I respect them for not trying to repeat the same trick again, good trick though it was. I'll give it time - hopefully it's a grower.

Bullets was one of the highlights (both as re-re-released single and album track) from The Back Room. On this version, the Birmingham group take on the mighty Koma & Bones although it has to be said it's the least Koma & Bones track I've heard for a while. A little different anyway from the guitar-centric moves of the original.

Robots In Disguise

Possibly the toughest musical challenge I've had yet - I mean how do you approach one of the most complete and well known techno-pop tracks ever made. You can't possibly do it justice. Still - although not a complete disaster this may be one of the tracks that you should perhaps listen to only once in a blue moon as it just doesn't do Kraftwerk any favours.

Anyway - the rest of the album is suitably irreverent which is only a good thing: it can be found over at mashup industries website. I'm pleased to report there's some good stuff in there also.

Enough Is Enough

Must admit I was a bit baffled by DJ Shadow's last album - a real departure in places from his previous genre but after a couple of months, it's actually shaped out pretty well. One of the standouts was a smooth R&B track featuring Q-Tip & Lateef called Enuff.

This reworking was actually finished in November 2006 - sorry for keeping it back as a secret weapon, but I hope you think it was worth the wait. The beats come courtsey Bobby Lorenz Kristoph who I must admit I don't know much about - let me know if you do !
